Inspirational Women Series: Beau Mental Health
Rosalyn is the creator of Beau_Mentalhealth a blog that focuses on Mental Health. I was first drawn to her blog when she wrote a post called DEEP. The post was relatable but unique. She wrote about how a man changed her life, how he never gave up on her. My heartfelt for her as my eyes scanned the pages. I could feel the love and pain throughout the whole post.
Rosalyn blog touches on a lot of issues such as domestic violence, happiness, panic attacks and more.I believe her blog can help those facing similar issues.
I wanted to know more about Rosalyn and was able to through this interview. Rosalyn opens up about why she started this blog. She also opens up about how she got where she is today.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START BLOGGING?
I have always been open about my childhood trauma’s and my experience with being a young mother at the age of thirteen and entering into foster care at fourteen, because of these experiences I had a lot of unresolved issues and didn’t realize it until later on into my young adulthood.
It took a while for me to understand these traumas & with the help of an ex-boyfriend I started to become more aware of some of my poor choices and decision making. This led me to work towards my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, but even with that I started to feel like I wasn’t reaching as many people as I wanted to.
I decided to begin a blog, so I can share my personal experiences and clinically explain to those around the world the reasoning on why they may feel the way they do, whether it’s anxiety, depression or any other mental health concerns and become self-aware, while expressing no need to be ashamed and seeking the help they need because everyone deserves to be healthy & happy.
WHAT IS THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME OF YOUR BLOG?
BMH stands for Beau (a French word for beautiful) Mental Health. We all have some sort of mental health issue and we are all beautiful in our own way, there’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of for being human.
WHAT IS THE SOLE PURPOSE OF YOUR BLOG?
I want to utilize social network as a platform to share my own personal experience and clinical knowledge, I believe based on my story I can be relatable to some and inspirational for others. I want others to know that any traumas, anxiety, depression, etc… can be manageable and they can live a happy and healthy life, sometimes people just need the tools and encouragement to believe it themselves.
CURRENTLY, WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE BLOGGER?
(PLEASE PROVIDE IG OR WEBSITE IF POSSIBLE).
Well I have several, but the one that I have been following closely and has inspired me to create my own is @Dearsupermom. She is never shy to express her personal experiences as mother, a parent but also her struggle with PPD (Post-Partum Depression). Not only that but her main goal for her platform is to build a community based on support, encouragement and women empowerment and that is absolutely beautiful!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE OTHER WOMEN WHEN IT COMES TO ACHIEVING THEIR GOALS?
Reach for the stars!
For me personally I was doubted a lot, I was told I wouldn’t amount to anything and that gave me the drive to prove everyone wrong. Never allow anyone to put you down, never doubt yourself and understand there’s beauty in the struggle. No goal is easy, the most worthy things are hard to obtain, when you fight through all the obstacles you are most deserving of It all!
WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?
My family & my passion to serve the community, particularly the minority group. I enjoy dropping jewels and uplifting the people. I know if I continue to do this it will definitely pay off. Individuals will begin too self-actualized and understand the importance of mental health and loving yourself and that is PRICELESS.
WHAT IS ONE OBSTACLE YOU OVERCAME THAT GOT YOU WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?
Really understanding who I was then & who I am now. Growing up I was very angry and along the way I hurt family along the way and realizing the pain I caused to those that loved me was a very difficult pill to swallow, but I promised myself that I will treat everyone with respect and dedicate each day to being the best version of myself.
HOW HAS YOUR BLOG IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?
Well, I’m fairly new in the blog game, but personally it has helped me with my own anxiety. I use to internalize a lot of thoughts and was always scared to express myself to those around me because I felt like my delivery was very poor. Since I’ve been blogging I can express my deep thoughts and feelings and create blogs which definitely helps, with gathering my thoughts and productively expressing myself.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO FOCUS ON MENTAL HEALTH WHEN BLOGGING?
Mental health is the number one factor in healthy living. If you are not mentally healthy you can physically get sick. Your mind is so strong and it controls your entire life. The way you think, the way you feel, the way you make decisions, the way you build relationships, how you express yourself all of that is related to mental health, and to reach your full potential you have to be familiar with your flaws and embrace them and turn them into strengths, by doing this you can live the most fruitful life and me explaining that and teaching the community that, there is no better reward.
What can we expect next? A book coming soon! Keep your eyes open.
